Encounters with Difference is an upcoming conference on travel writing and gender. It is supported by the Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School for Literary Studies, and will be held at the Freie Universität Berlin on 27–28 October 2017. It is organized by Gigi Adair (University of Potsdam), Lenka Filipova (Freie Universität Berlin) and Camille Barrera (Freie Universität Berlin).

Please send your abstracts to encounterswithdifference@gmail.com by 15 June 2017. We welcome proposals for single 20-minute papers (abstracts approx. 250 words plus short bio and institutional affiliation) or panels of 3 papers (brief description of panel theme plus 3 abstracts).

There is no registration fee for the conference, and refreshments and a simple lunch will be provided on both days, however participants are responsible for their own travel and acccommodation costs. You can find more information on travel and accommodation here.
